Cime de Chamoussillon

Cime de Chamoussillon

The Cime de Chamoussillon is located in the heart of the Val d'Entraunes, right on the border with the Mercantour National Park. The tour offers exceptionally beautiful scenery and a fantastic downhill trail.

Description

The route begins in Villeneuve-d'Entraunes with a short downhill stretch along the main road. You’ll soon reach the turnoff for Châteauneuf and climb this road to the picturesque mountain village. The route passes by the village, but a detour into the village center is well worth it. Here, the surface soon turns to gravel, and the impressively laid-out little road winds through red-hued rock formations. On this tour, the climb itself is a highlight. Eventually, you’ll reach the hamlet of Tourrès, where there’s also a fountain. Continue along the gravel road until, after passing an alp, it becomes very steep and rough. The ascent is just barely rideable on an e-mountain bike; otherwise, you’ll need to push your bike for 250 meters of elevation gain. This takes you to the grassy mountain ridge, where you’ll enjoy a fantastic view of the Mercantour National Park to the north. The route now continues as a meadow trail almost to the summit of the Cime de Chamoussillon. Only the final few meters are on a singletrack. The summit offers a fantastic view over the entire Val d’Entraunes.

Riders with solid technical skills can head from the summit along the ridge trail into the long singletrack descent. However, the alternative route around the summit is just as appealing. You’ll ride through the rugged terrain of Terres-Noirs and, a little later, head into the forest. A seemingly endless S2 trail now winds through the lovely landscape. Especially in summer, you can feel the temperatures rising with every meter. The superb trail ends right at the road. If you’ve had enough, follow the road back to Villeneuve; otherwise, there are a few beautiful and smooth trails on the other side of the valley that you can ride to wrap up your ride.

Tip: The last trail ends at a bridge. Right under the bridge, there’s a great spot for a refreshing dip in the Var stream.
