Guillaumes – Terres Rouges
Description
This impressive tour begins with a long climb up the narrow mountain road from Guillaumes to Valberg. There are around 900 vertical meters to conquer here. After crossing the village, the route continues south towards the bike park, which is left to the right. It is hardly worth taking the chairlift as it starts lower down.
Instead, follow the gravel road further uphill until you reach the Col de Raton after a short intermediate downhill. This is where the final section of the ascent begins: a technically easy single trail through open meadow terrain leads up to the ledge below the Dôme de Barrot. Behind it, the highlight of the tour awaits - the passage through the spectacular, reddish-colored soil of the region. After this impressive section, the trail continues along the ridge before riding through the southern flanks to the Col de Roua. The level of difficulty is in the S2 to S3 range, with a mixture of flowing sections and technical challenges.
Just after the pass, you reach a gravel road, which you follow briefly uphill. At the next ridge, the next trail branches off to the left: it first winds its way down to the valley floor in serpentines, then continues as a mountain trail and finally leads into a final descent that takes you directly back to Guillaumes. The last few meters roll relaxed along the main road.
