Gurnigelberg
Description
The starting point of the tour is the village of Blumenstein, which can be easily reached from Thun via cycle paths with little traffic. The ascent leads from here via Hasenegg to the Gurnigel Pass. The route is signposted as a mountain bike route and alternates between asphalt and gravel roads. The mountain destination is the Gurnigelberg, from where the long singletrail descent to Wattenwil begins. While the official, technically easy route makes a loop via Gurnigelbad, the more challenging version passes the upper Gurnigel on the right and takes a fairly direct route through the Gurnigelwald forest to the edge of the forest at Stafelalp. The trail is challenging, repeatedly interspersed with steps and often damp and slippery. However, bikers with good riding skills are well served on this section. After Stafelalp, there is an intermediate section on a gravel road to the banks of the young Gürbe. Now a singletrail rides along the stream, further down on a trail prepared by mountain bikers through the alluvial forest. This section forms the wonderful final section of the tour.

A wonderful ascent with increasingly beautiful views. At the Gurnigel mountain inn you can fortify yourself before the long descent. The first part of the descent is quite tricky and
quite wet despite the dry conditions. This doesn't exactly make the many root passages any easier to grip. The middle section unfortunately only consists of a forest road, then another nice trail and finally along the beautiful Gürbe almost to the starting point. The last forest section (approx. at km 23) is barricaded and cannot be ridden.
Unfortunately, the lowest section of the trail is closed and barricaded in several places.
We did the tour yesterday in pretty wet conditions. The descent is tricky and full of steps. If, like me, you don't like it that much, it's a bit tedious. But the (slippery) sections are great fun.
The ascent takes place in idyllic surroundings, most of the time you are in the forest. The long descent is incredibly fun, even if it is quite technically demanding. The numerous roots and sharp-edged stones are tricky to master even in dry conditions. When the ground is wet, I have to dismount for a few meters every now and then.
