Hornberg-Trails

Waldstetten is located not far from Schwäbisch Gmünd and offers numerous great single trails. A loop with a surprisingly high proportion of single trails.

Description

The route starts in Waldstetten, south of Schwäbisch Gmünd. Follow the bike paths into the center of Waldstetten. The route begins with an ascent along gravel roads to Hornberg, home to a glider airfield, among other things. Once you reach the top, the first single-track descent begins. A twisty and fun S2-rated trail—which can be slippery when wet—leads back to the ascent route, which you follow uphill again to Hornberg. The extra descent makes the climb back up well worth it.

In Hornberg, you head along a fast singletrack along the mountain ridge, reach the airfield, and then gain elevation to reach the next plateau. This serves as the starting point for the descent toward Nenningen. At first, the route proceeds quickly at difficulty level S1 before the character changes. In alpine style, the route winds downhill through open terrain. Further down, the trail joins a small paved road; shortly after, you turn right and reach the Reiterle Pass. Instead of climbing directly, a short detour toward Schwarzhorn is recommended to take advantage of the attractive trail through the meadows. This transitions into the Schwarzhorn Trail (difficulty level S2), which leads to a parking lot.

A paved transfer section follows to Wissgoldingen, where you turn onto the steep gravel climb to the Stuifen. The final meters run along a singletrack. This is generally rideable but requires a lot of leg strength or the assistance of an electric motor. Now you head over the ridge on the fast trail and shortly thereafter reach the Waldstetten flow trail. This forms the basis for a short stretch before you keep left and take the much longer trail down to Bronnforst-Strasse. This section marks the end of a varied mountain bike tour with a high proportion of single trails.

Note: The tour is located in Baden-Württemberg with the legal requirement of a two-meter rule. This tour contains elements that do not comply with this regulation. Rather, it reflects routes that are ridden by local mountain bikers. Compliance with the regulations is the responsibility of each individual mountain biker.
