Hundstein
Description
The starting point is the small hamlet of Thumersbach on the western shore of Lake Zell. From here, it's a relaxed ride on asphalt up the west side of the official Erlhofplatten tour on a moderate incline to the Enzianhütte. The change from asphalt to gravel is rather insignificant, as the uphill character does not change due to the well-surfaced road. In the area from Schafkopf to Moosalmhöhe, you cross a panoramic road and have a clear view of the Hohe Tauern, as well as the glaciated giants such as the Grossglockner and the nearby mountain peaks. The route continues in this manner to the Tödlingalm before finally reaching a single trail and then pedaling relatively steeply up to the Hundstein. At the summit there is the Statzerhaus, as well as seating at the summit cross including a 360-degree panorama in a class of its own: from the Steinernes Meer, the Leoganger Steinberge to the Hohe Tauern, everything is on offer here. Even views of the Zillertal Alps are possible on a clear day.
The descent is essentially very easy. Starting from the hut on difficulty level S1, past the Ochsenkopf and down an old cart track to the end of the valley at Hinterwald - relatively easy to ride, but very varied and idyllic. In the intermediate section, the path was repaired and lost its trail character somewhat. Along the Thumersbach, another short climb to Reithgut and taking the last few meters of trail with you, you end up back at the starting point at Lake Zell.
Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
