Veli Vrh - Vela Draga Trail
Description
The tour starts on the west side of the island of Krk in Punat, near the town of Krk. After an idyllic start in the harbor, the route quickly leads to a crisp uphill on gravel on the southern slope. The route briefly leads onto the main road D102 before continuing uphill on side roads towards the summit. The views become increasingly impressive as the altitude increases, with magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea.
The summit is finally reached by pushing, and at 542 meters above sea level, it offers a breathtaking panorama and an overview of the entire island. The descent is challenging, typical of Karststein with bumpy and crisp sections, but also with a certain flow. The difficulty varies between S1 and S3. The trail becomes more challenging as it progresses and finally features some modified sections with jumps, drops and berms, which were created by the locals. It is advisable to check these out beforehand, as some of the jumps are quite sporty.
The tour ends back in Punat, where you can relax with a cold beer or coffee and reflect on the impressions of the ride.
Note: The summer months of July and August can indeed be very hot in Istria and Dalmatia, and the peak tourist season brings additional restrictions for biking. This is important information for anyone planning the tour to ensure they have the best conditions for their outdoor experience and can take into account the heat as well as the increased volume of tourists.
