Autapie Endless Flow
Description
The tour begins in picturesque Colmars with the climb up the road to Allos. This village also boasts a particularly beautiful town center. The route continues on the other side of the valley to the valley station of the chairlift. If you’re traveling in July or August, you can take the chairlift to help with the ascent. Outside of operating hours, you’ll have to tackle the 350-meter climb on a gravel road. After the chairlift’s top station, the ascent becomes treacherously steep. Although a gravel road leads all the way up to the Autapie, it can only be reasonably managed with an e-mountain bike. This brings the total elevation gain to 500 meters.
From the summit, the view opens up over the entire Val d’Allos and the Verdon region, which lies slightly lower. The trail along the ridge—which forms the first part of the descent—is also clearly visible. Later, you turn left into the forest, where a superb trail rated S2 in difficulty awaits. After passing the Cabane de l’Autapie—which is unstaffed—you ride a few meters along a gravel road to the next trail. This is the highlight. Rated S1, it winds through extremely steep terrain, making you wonder, “Who on earth would build a trail like this?” The trail leads in a truly impressive manner all the way to the first houses in Colmars.
