Col des Champs Supertrail
Description
From Colmars, you can take the direct route up the small mountain pass road to the Col de Champs. However, the route is much more appealing if you first ride through a wild side valley to Pont de la Serre and then take the first-class singletrack at the same elevation all the way to the pass road. This way, the climb also includes a significant amount of singletrack.
At the pass, the view opens up to the Mercantour National Park, followed by the trail that starts a little further down toward Allos. The upper section is a beautiful S2 trail with occasional S3 sections and a backdrop of lush meadows and black landslides. Later, you reach the pass road again and climb a short distance along it until you turn back onto the route you took on the ascent. You’ll climb a few more meters along the familiar route—now in the opposite direction—until a path branches off to the right on the ridge. This descent to Colmars is the highlight of the day. A superb, varied S2 trail leads down to the first houses of Colmars.
