Cabane d'Antème

Cabane d'Antème

On the north side of the Dents du Midi, a world-class trail rides along the mighty rock towers. The route past the Cabane d'Antème is considered one of the most attractive mountain bike tours in the Champéry region.

Description

The ascent of the tour is tough right from the start: after a short downhill phase on the valley floor of Champéry, the route climbs more than 1100 meters in altitude to just below the Signal de Soi. The ascent initially rides on asphalt roads, then on gravel paths and has an even, pleasant gradient. The singletrail fun starts at the left-hand serpentine below the Signal de Soi, but is still uphill for the time being. The ascent leads up to the Cabane d'Antème and is practically completely rideable. The mountain hut is the culmination point and offers a good opportunity to stop for refreshments. The descent then begins directly behind the idyllic mountain lake. A first-class, varied and mostly gently sloping trail leads in the shadow of the mighty Dents du Midi to above the Saufla Gorge. Those who like it technical can now head into the descent through the gorge. Everyone else climbs a little further up to Bonavau and then tackles the trail to Grand Paradis. From here, you finally roll the last stretch on the access road to the starting point in Champéry.

Attention: The trail along the Dents du Midi is part of the popular hike "Tour des Dents du Midi". In other words: Many hikers can be found on this route at the height of summer.

The tour was ok and, as already mentioned, is flat from Mettecui to shortly after Rossetan. Many of the paths have loose rocks and scree. All in all, it's okay for once, but I won't go the long way a second time. I'd rather go down to the UCI World Championships :-)

The hospitality for mountain bikers in the Capane d'Antem and Refuge de Bonaveau has... "character". The concerted rejection of bikers in Champery, especially outside the bike park, is clearly noticeable here. No parking mountain bikes in the vicinity. No riding on the trail. At the first hut - no service for bikers. Next time I'll probably have to take hiking poles with me to get served ;-)
Self-made ride and prohibition signs can be found on every second corner. It doesn't seem to be known here that it is a punishable offense to be an official. Goodbye Champery!

Tour ridden on 30.6.2025: from ''Mettecui'' (approx. 1780müM) the hiking trail was flattened for a longer stretch to a hiking highway. Overall, however, a beautiful and varied tour.

Can only agree with the predecessors. Rode it on 10.11.24. Very nice trail. Not very demanding, but still varied and beautiful ambience. An absolute highlight for me.
I didn't see any bike bans - maybe you shouldn't ride the trail in the hiking season?

I did this tour on 27.06.2021. The trail is officially closed at point 1928 when you leave the 4x4 trail and join the single track (snowfield, landslides and no bridges to cross over the torrents). There are also several mountain bike bans before and after the Bonaveau hut. Super tour!

I rode the tour on 22.09.2020. First I went down 160m on a gravel path. Just as I was looking for an alternative on the map, the singletrail started after the bridge. This was crisp in places but very fun to ride, but from La Cour onwards the fun was over and the route went uphill. The ascent on tar and gravel is easy to ride. The following singletrail didn't promise too much, the trail is comparable to the Monte Bar - San Lucio mountain trail, with alternating uphill and downhill sections. Unfortunately, it had probably rained quite heavily shortly before my passage, so the trail was initially paved with a mixture of sheep shit and dirt. Nevertheless, a super trail up to the Cabane! From there it's mainly downhill, the trail is quite easy and fun to ride, but there are always technical delicacies waiting. From Rossétan it's another steep climb, and I had to dismount a few times. But another super trail awaited me as far as Paradies. From there, I took the hiking trail back to Champéry instead of staying on the track, which was a good decision. Conclusion: An absolute top tour, which I will certainly repeat in dry conditions.
I ride a Scott Genius Ultimate and am usually in the head group uphill; downhill I'm always the last one by a long way.

I rode the tour again on 17.08.2021, this time in good weather. Instead of destroying the first 160m on the gravel path, this time I went up the road for about 500m (along the trail) to the bridge. There, a trail leads down to the STEP (be careful, there are 2 trails, take the left one). So you start with a technical treat :-). After this tour, I added the Col de Cou tour for dessert.
