Elmstein Rundtour
Description
In the middle of the Palatinate Forest - that's the motto of this long and difficult mountain bike tour, with everything an ambitious mountain biker could wish for: long descents, challenging trails, but also steep climbs, sometimes on narrow paths. We start in Lambrecht, which many bikers know as the start and end point of the legendary Gäsbock bike marathon. We ride on side roads via Sattelmühle, climbing only slightly to Frankeneck. This is followed by a varied ascent, sometimes narrow, sometimes wide, with a descent to Esthal. We roll through the village and follow the road along the Schwabenbach stream. We continue along a short trail to the Naturfreundehaus Elmstein. Now we cycle on a trail, past a beautiful view, to Elmstein. In this village, the tour can also be shortened and ridden directly back to Lambrecht. This is followed by a long climb below the summit of Bloskülb. The route then takes a varied route to Speyerbrunn. There you have the option of shortening the tour again and taking the loop back to the starting point. However, we follow the signs and ride via Erlenbach to Johanniskreuz. There we can treat ourselves to a break and have a bite to eat on the spot.
After Johanniskreuz, the route continues downhill for longer on a beautiful, long trail. We ride through Speyerbrunn again and cycle along a forest road alongside the L499 before heading uphill again on a narrow path. Back in Elmstein, the route rides via Appenthal and Helmbach to Erfenstein. Here you have the opportunity to take a short detour to visit Spangenberg Castle. The medieval castle has been partially reconstructed and also has a highly recommended castle tavern. Finally, we ride back to Lambrecht via Iptestal and a final trail descent with a few hairpin bends.
