Las Palmas Backyard
Description
The starting point of this three-part tour is the port of Las Palmas, where a few kilometers and calories are expended to get out of the city centre. You cycle to Tamaraceite on numerous cycle paths and roads with little traffic, where the first "real" climb begins a little later. The little road leads up to San José del Alamo. However, you don't ride all the way up to the village, but keep left at the first houses and a little later you reach a singletrail - the start of the first descent. First flowy, then a little more bumpy, you ride along the ridge towards San Lorenzo. The further you ride down, the rougher the trail becomes and ends in San Lorenzo. This is where the second part of the trilogy begins.
This second part shows the steep side. A tough asphalt road leads up to La Milagrosa. You pass the village, branch off to the left a little later and now fight your way up and down on asphalt to the next mountain ridge, where trail number two of the day begins in a right-hand hairpin bend above the Lumbria reservoir. This great trail with the best views in the direction of Las Palmas even offers a summit experience with some quite crisp downhill sections in between. You always follow the ridge, interrupted briefly by a counter-climb on asphalt. The descent leads down to the Guiniguada valley.
Now phase 3 begins, with another ascent. However, this is much shorter than the previous two and rides up to the villa district of Monte Luz, where the ridge for the great final section down to the town is already reached. A very long, flowing singletrail hugs the mountain here and rides almost flat along the entire Lasso ridge to the first houses of Las Palmas. Here you reach the city and soon the coast. The historic Vegueta district with its many cafés and restaurants is perfect for a last stop before you roll along the coast on the cycle path (parallel to the highway) back to the port.
Tip: If you want to shorten the tour, skip the first loop and ride from Tamaraceite via a single trail directly to San Lorenzo.
