Monte Pracaban

There are several trail options starting from Campo Ligure; the loop route over Monte Pracaban, which connects to trails heading south, offers a long, varied, and scenic alternative.

Description

In the Stura Valley, the route starts right in the center of Campo Ligure. From here, the trail begins on paved roads and, after passing Pra della Colla, continues along a somewhat rough access road toward Prato del Lupo. You then push your bike along the ridge to Monte Pracaban, a mountain in the area that offers spectacular views but is relatively unknown. From here, on a clear day, you can see the Monte Rosa massif to the north and the Maritime Alps to the west. The trail descent follows the ridge and is rated S2/S2+, featuring some very smooth sections. Finally, you reach the main road SP167, follow it for a few meters to just below Monte Poggio, and then take the gravel road as a feeder trail toward Prato Rondanino. At the ranch itself, the route then takes you onto a singletrack that feels like it takes forever, winding through a variety of terrain—forest floor, gravel, and partially eroded sections—including a few cross-country-style climbs back to Campo Ligure. The overall difficulty can be rated S2/S2+, with the technical sections occurring mostly in the last third.
