Senj Coast-Trails
Description
The tour starts in the picturesque harbor town of Senj, which impresses with its numerous historic buildings. After a steep ascent to the Nehaj castle and defensive complex on paved roads, the route runs constantly on asphalt along the southern slopes, with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, the island of Krk and the surrounding islands.
At the height of Glavica, the first trail begins, which is typical of the area and stretches between gravelly ground and low vegetation. The descent is a direct descent with a difficulty of S1 to S2. Afterwards, a gravel ramp or forest road leads to Planikovac. This road offers a few cut-offs, but these can be a little tricky, especially in the summer months due to the dense vegetation.
After a relaxed ride along the coastal road heading south, you wind your way back up again on tarmac serpentines. The coastal road also offers fantastic views and is not very busy outside the vacation season. Once you reach Rončeva glavica, you cross a mountain path and reach the first trail sections. The second downhill begins between S1 and S2 and is particularly epic at Paškanovac. Here you come to a former brick mule track that rides at a constant incline towards Park Nehaj/Forte Nehaj. Finally, you reach the coastal road and return to the starting point.
It is recommended to avoid the tour in the summer months of July/August due to high temperatures and increased numbers of tourists. If necessary, the loop can be shortened by splitting the uphill section.
