Monti di Motti
Description
The tour starts at Tenero railroad station, from where you follow small roads through Gordola and the vineyards to Agarone. From here, the route climbs on asphalt to the small village of Monti di Motti at the entrance to the Verzasca Valley. The village is a popular destination for escaping the summer heat in the Magadino plain
Just above the grotto, you head onto the downhill trail. The S2 trail has short ascents in the upper segment and finally switches to downhill mode. Now the trail becomes more challenging (S3). Again and again you pass small alpine settlements in the middle of very steep terrain and finally reach the banks of the Verzasca reservoir. From here, follow the road to the dam and from there on to Gordola and back to Tenero.
Note: There is a trail above the road, but it is gruelling and can only be ridden in places.
Tip: Plan a detour to the impressive Verzasca dam. If you haven't had enough adrenaline from the descent, you can spice up the tour here with a bungee jump (220 meters)

We revised the tour a little and took out the trail along the road to the dam.
First trail section up to the first rusticos consists mainly of stairs, alternative route for those who want to avoid even more stairs;) --> After the dam wall, turn left up to Monti di Metri (push/carry approx. 300 m). Then add the "Monti di Gana" ride tour. If you are traveling by car, it is best to park above Agarone, so you can do all the Elevation losses on trails :)
A beautiful tour on a hot day, but you should already be thinking about the trail after the uphill. Concentration is required, especially in the first part. There are some tricky sections where you can give free rein to your play instinct more or less without danger.
As already described above, at the Fantöbia signpost it is better to go down to the road, indulge your fear of heights on the dam wall and then immediately return to the hiking trail towards Tenero. There are some nice steps at the end where you can bring your damper oil to boiling point again :-)
Rode a very cool tour at Easter 2022. Crowds of e-bikers on Monti di Motti. Trail to the reservoir super cool. The trail from Fontöbia to the dam wall is for the foxes, even the best bikers have to push and carry. Can't understand why the route is not changed by Ride, everyone makes the same negative comment about this section. Ride back onto the original trail at the dam if you like stairs.
I would say the same, I'm a biker not a pusher, and it's so exposed that you should ride there if you want to, but I don't want to fly down these steep slopes, in my opinion it's also borderline for hikers.
The trail should be veined.
I rode the trail yesterday (for the umpteenth time). From Lignasca onwards, large trees have fallen onto the trail in various places. Getting through is sometimes very difficult; the trail that already exists is not worthwhile. I would therefore not do the tour for the time being until the trees have been cleared away.
Ridden on 24.04. Demanding hairpin bends and no longer worthwhile from Fontöbia as described. GPX data lead to this section. It's best to ignore it and head straight onto the road!
great trail, nice ascent, from fontobia take the black dotted trail (swiss topo map) to the main road, follow the road to the reservoir, at the reservoir turn left uphill and follow the gpx...you can save yourself the original trail from fontobia...
We rode the tour on March 20, trail condition very good, trail black for expert riders, I can confirm, but very nice. We wanted to test the left variant at the end of the trail, up to the reservoir, but it's not worth it, there's a lot of portage. Andrea + Daniela (ticinesi also ride the trail)
From Fontöbia it's all up and down on small narrow steps. No longer rideable. Bike almost always has to be carried up and down steep paths.
You should go straight down onto the road.
The ascent is easy to manage in summer, as the main part can be ridden in the forest. If you like more challenging trails, this is the tour for you. As a family aged between 14 and 50, we had a lot of fun. The route to Fontöbia above the main road only makes sense for hikers. After Fontöbia, don't take the turn-off over the stream but follow the trail further down onto the road. At the height of the dam wall, change back to the specified route (low-traffic paths). The specified trail up to the height of the dam is recommended for hikers who do not have a bike as hand luggage.
If you ride Cardana and Monti di Pinz, you can ride this too. You may have to descend a few times - especially at the start of the trail. But otherwise a cool trail. Just before the shore of the Verzasca reservoir, we (unknowingly) made the mistake of following the hiking trail to the left. We then had to carry and push a lot until we reached the dam wall. The road below is certainly the better option. The ascent is quite comfortable and beautiful.
Can recommend the tour. Just ride the right way...! :-)
