Monte Giove

Monte Giove, Cannobio

Monte Giove is one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains on upper Lake Maggiore. But no pain, no gain: the ascent on the road is mercilessly steep and the descent on the trail is very challenging.

Description

From Cannobio, you cycle along the lakeside road towards Brissago for a while, then turn left in Nizzolino onto the mountain road to Campeglio and on to Sant'Agata. The leisurely section of the tour is now over and the asphalt road becomes increasingly steep. But this is just the beginning: after Alpe Marcalone, the road turns into a gravel path that is so steep that the path to the summit is an unparalleled feat of strength. The last section to the summit - a trail where the bike has to be shouldered - is almost a piece of cake. This carrying passage is a must; the panoramic view from the summit is simply breathtaking.

Now it's time for the descent. The trail is crisp at first, but can be ridden by good technicians. A little above Alp Biessen, turn left onto a high-level trail that is very fun to ride at times. Fallen trees and a few slippery sections reduce the fun somewhat. At a chapel, the descent becomes steeper again, rough and stony all the way to Sant'Agate. The final section back to Cannobio is another challenge. The upper section in particular is very demanding, even unrideable at times, but in the lower section the trail becomes more fluid and ends as a fun flow trail over the last few meters.

According to Trailforks, the recommended descent is closed. There is another option on the east side.
