With the Aiguilles de Chabrières, you reach a vantage point almost 2,400 meters above sea level, which impresses above all with its varied and sometimes challenging descent and the magnificent view of Lac de Serre-Ponçon.

Description

The tour begins on the northern shore of Lac de Serre-Ponçon opposite Savines-le-Lac. From here, you climb steadily on a mixture of asphalt, gravel and main roads until you reach the Station de Ski de Réallon ski area. Impressive panoramic views along the south-facing slopes open up during the ascent, shortening the long ascent, at least visually. In the ski area, which is also used as a mountain bike park in summer, you continue on a classic feeder road up to around 2150 meters above sea level.

Here you have the option of ending the tour or - for those who don't have an electric mountain bike - shouldering the mountain bike and carrying it up to the Aiguilles de Chabrières, the highest point of the tour. It is already clear on the ascent that the descent has some key technical sections, with loose stones and tight hairpin bends. The summit itself can only be reached on foot, but offers a breathtaking view over the Lac de Serre-Ponçon and the surrounding mountains.

The descent begins with a technical start at difficulty level S3, even S4 in places, and leads directly down into the ski area to the mountain stations. From there, you follow an impressive, very scenic trail along the ridge. This section should not be underestimated either. The trail then gradually becomes easier and leads into wooded areas. Here, the trail winds its way further down the valley in numerous hairpin bends and flowing passages of difficulty S2, later S1.

The trail finally ends at a small bathing beach or rocky steep bank directly on the lake. From there, you take the main road back to the starting point.

All in all, this route is a long, varied and challenging mountain bike tour that can be shortened or extended by using the mountain railroad when it is in operation, depending on your fitness level and preferences. The cable car can also be used as a shuttle to make the ascent easier.
