Moussière Supertrail
Description
Most of the ascent on this tour is quickly told: From Mont-Dauphin, a long asphalt road rides uphill at a steady incline. Gradually, the road turns into a gravel track that eventually rides to the idyllic Lac du Lauzet. After the lake, the more challenging part of the climb begins. A single trail initially winds its way uphill, but the last 100 meters in altitude are quite a challenge: steep, alpine, with loose ground in places. The mountain bike has to be carried here. E-mountain bikers can manage this section with pushing assistance and a little physical effort.
The effort is worth it: after the Col de Moussière, an epic trail begins that is one of the best in the region. At first, it rides smoothly through an expansive plateau. As it progresses, the terrain becomes rougher and rockier before the trail plunges into a pine forest. Spectacular views open up again and again - in the upper section, the view extends as far as Lac de Serre-Ponçon.
The descent is simply a dream: varied, never technically demanding and with perfect flow. You reach civilization again at Hodouls and roll back to Mont-Dauphin on a mix of narrow trails and short road sections.
Tip to finish: If you start directly at Mont-Dauphin station, you will find a small bakery (Galette de Vauban) with homemade ice cream just off the main road - the ideal place to end this extraordinary tour in style.
