Mont Guillaume
Description
This mountain bike tour starts in Embrun and rides through an impressively scenic region. The long and challenging 1600-metre ascent begins in an urban setting and rides past charming chalets and through picturesque mountain villages. After a few hundred meters in altitude, the asphalt path turns into a gravel path at the hiking parking lot, where the gradient also increases.
The breathtaking views and distant vistas accompany the entire ascent. At the Chapelle des Seyéres, where there is also a fountain to replenish water reserves, the path changes from a gravel path to a trail. This continues in hairpin bends and long straights to the summit. Technically experienced e-bikers can ride around 80% of the route uphill, while biobikers have to push, carry or pedal the bike in places.
On reaching the summit of Mont Guillaume, there are spectacular views of Lac de Serre-Poncon to the south and the surrounding bike 3000m peaks on the Italian-French border. The descent begins in an appealing manner with hairpin bends and follows the ascent route to the Chapelle des Seyéres. The difficulty of the route is classified as S1 and S2, although some sections can be more challenging.
After the chapel, a trail rides through the forest, offering a flowing and fun downhill. The middle section of the trail runs alongside a river and features some eroded sections that can become challenging after heavy rain. The long descent finally leads into urban terrain at an altitude of around 950 meters.
The last part of the route offers more trail riding fun before arriving back in Embrun. It should be noted that the mountain is also very popular as a hiking destination, so the tour should be planned outside of weekends and public holidays if possible to avoid the high number of hikers.

Due to the geography and topography, windthrow and erosion associated with forestry work occur here time and again.
06.2025 Absolutely not recommended. The descent is either super easy (without any challenge) or you have to carry over fallen trees, slope drops, harvested tracks and super mud... No reward for the long ascent.
