Col de Péas

The Col de Péas from the Guil Valley in the Cottian Alps to the north offers an interesting all-mountain tour, especially on the southern descent, including two well-known stages of the Stone King Rally.

Description

The tour starts in Château-Queyras, and from there the route takes a relaxed route along the south-facing slopes to Le Meyries. After a left-hand bend towards Rouet, the route continues on gravel and offers an increasingly impressive panorama. At an altitude of around 2300 meters above sea level, you leave the gravel road and continue the tour on a singletrail. In the higher sections, it is still possible to pedal before reaching the highest point of the tour, the Col de Péas at around 2650 meters. There, a spectacular mountain panorama opens up, especially to the north with its rugged rock formations.

The descent initially leads southwards and is quite easy on the pass itself with a difficulty level of S1. It leads to a junction with a gravel road. Here you take an easterly course on the so-called aqueduct road, which was originally built to carry water to the dry slopes. The path is relatively easy to ride at first, with the trail leveling off between S1 and S2. The route offers a magnificent view, especially in the upper section, and in autumn, the larch forests are a breathtaking play of colors.

Finally, you come to a gravel road again and enjoy an interesting view of the huge Fort Queyras complex from there. The tour continues eastwards and finally leads into the next stage of the Stone King Rally - a perfect single trail that is more challenging than the previous sections, but fits seamlessly into the overall picture. After arriving in Ville-Vieille, the trail follows the river Le Guil in a westerly direction back to the starting point.
