The Italian-French border region around Abriés attracts visitors with its first-class trail combinations and magnificent panoramic views. The all-mountain tour over La Lauzière is undoubtedly one of the region’s absolute top descents.

Description

The route begins in Abriés. From there, it rides north on paved roads, climbing steadily uphill to the small mountain village of Le Roux. The trail then branches off to the right and winds through the ski area, ascending at a moderate gradient to the Collette de Gilly. The pass itself already offers impressive panoramic views, even if the ski lifts do somewhat dominate the alpine landscape here.

Along the ridge follows a section where the mountain bike is mostly pushed, though a few sections just before the summit are rideable again. At La Lauzière, the highest point of the tour at about 2,575 meters above sea level, you reach the summit of emotions. The border region between Italy and France literally lies at your feet here. The isolated ridge location of the summit offers an unobstructed view all the way to the majestic Monviso.

Then the real highlight begins: the descent. In a varied mix of S1 and S2-rated trails, the path winds smoothly through the upper section. In the lower, forested section, a few tricky hairpin turns test your riding skills before you finally reach La Monta. From there, the trail leads back leisurely to Abriés, the starting point of the tour.
