Col Vieux – Lac Foréant
Description
Start in Molines-en-Queyras with the pass road up to Col Agnel. From here, the route climbs steadily uphill on a mix of asphalt on the pass road and gravel side roads. Wrapped in massive mountain ridges and in absolute solitude, you pedal upwards and are completely outside the vegetation and tree line, which means that you can already enjoy breathtaking panoramic views here. At Col Agnel, turn left shortly before Passende and take an epic trail uphill towards Pian de Sucre. At an altitude of 2900 meters above sea level, you cross below the summit and thus reach the highest point of the tour.
On difficulty S1 to S2, you descend a few Elevation losses to Col Vieux. The route continues in this manner with an interesting mix of trails down to Lac Foréant, a beautiful mountain lake. Especially in autumn, when the grasses and meadows are colored, the turquoise-steel-blue lake almost looks like something out of a computer game. However, the trail is far from over here. It only joins a forest road in the village of L Échalp and then continues steadily uphill along the river Le Guil. Passing Abriés, the route then follows the main road for a few more meters before finally crossing back to the starting point. There are still a few meters of altitude to climb here, but this is a manageable area.

I rode the tour at the beginning of July 2023. The descent past the lake is sensational, very varied and challenging in places. Attention: In the high season (July, August), the trail may only be ridden from 3 pm onwards due to the numerous pedestrians.
Unfortunately, we had to shorten the tour a little due to the weather. But for all those who don't have the strength or the desire after the Col d'Agnel:
From the pass there is a great trail at S1-S2 level (approx. 500tm). The trail is 100% rideable and really fun!
