Col Fromage – Gorges du Guil
Description
The first part of the tour rides from Ceillac up to Col Fromage. First, follow a short gravel road uphill towards Les Chalmettes. Just before the small group of houses, a singletrail branches off to the left. The well-maintained path up to Col Fromage is an excellent mountain bike route. Without a motor, a short section of pushing is required from time to time, but with an e-MTB, the entire ascent to Col Fromage is rideable.
From Col Fromage, you can climb around 250 meters up to Mont Brunet. E-mountain bikers have a clear advantage on the ascent trail, as the motor makes it possible to ride on the loose, energy-sapping gravel passages. Without a motor, the mountain bike has to be pushed over long stretches because the surface is too strenuous. The summit with its small chapel offers a magnificent panorama over the entire Queyras region and invites you to take an extended break. The return trip to Col Fromage follows the same route as the ascent.
Col Fromage is the starting point for the long trail descent down to the valley floor of the Gorges du Guil. This super trail rides to Le Pontet/Bramousse. The trail then continues to the valley floor in the Gorges du Guil. You now follow the main road down the valley and finally climb around 500 meters back to Ceillac. Here you have the option of taking a shuttle up. In the summer months, a regular bus service also rides to Ceillac.
