Tête de Rissace
Description
Ceillac is not only known for its exceptional location, but also offers countless breathtaking bike mountains. This mountain bike tour starts in the charming mountain sports resort of Ceillac, on the French-Italian border. From there, the route initially rides along a paved road with a moderate gradient through the picturesque Ceillac valley. Gradually, the surface changes to a steeper gravel road that challenges bikers all the way to the Cabane de la Lavine. This is where the rideable part of the uphill ends and the bike has to be shouldered.
After a short breather in the impressive mountain landscape, the route continues to Lac de Clausis, a spectacular mountain lake, the sight of which is reminiscent of paradise. Surrounded by rugged rock faces and with crystal-clear, colorful water, the lake offers an unforgettable panorama.
The tour continues over smaller sections, some of which can be pedaled or pushed, up to the Col de Clausis, where the alpine landscape begins. A well-maintained gravel road along the ridge offers picturesque ascents and descents up to the almost 3,000-metre-high summit. From the summit, bikers can enjoy a breathtaking view that seems almost endless in clear autumn weather.
The descent begins on the ridge on gravel and initially remains at difficulty level S2, but also reaches S3 in places. This section is particularly attractive as it runs above the vegetation line and offers a fascinating view of the surroundings. The route continues over sand, gravel and rough stones until it finally reaches the residential area of Les Pointes. After a short tarmacked section, the trail changes to forest and meadow paths, offering a varied mix all the way back to the starting point in Ceillac.
