Lac de Grand Laus - Grand Glaiza
Description
The route starts in the village of Aiguilles with a climb up a gravel road to the Bergerie du Lombard. You have now mastered 750 meters of elevation gain and continue on foot, pushing and carrying your bike. In this way you reach the Lac de Grand Laus (2590 meters above sea level). If you want to shorten the route or if there is snow at high altitudes, this is the culmination point. For everyone else, the ascent continues in the same way. You reach the Col du Petit Malrif and a little later the Pic de Malrif. Now follow the ridge until the path climbs steeply again to the clearly visible summit. This section is of a high alpine character and the bike can easily be deposited here to tackle the summit entirely on foot. However, the summit experience on the Grand Glaiza (3293 meters above sea level) is worthwhile, as the view extends over large parts of the Italian Piedmont and the French Haute-Alpes.
The descent leads to the Pic de Malrif on the ascent route. Now take the great trail along the ridge down to the mountain lake. Now there are two options: Either follow the ascent route downhill, but then keep left a good distance above the Bergerie and take the trail down to Aiguilles. The other version suggested here is the descent via the Cabane des Bertins through the Malrif valley to Abries. From here, it's a relaxed ride along the little road back to Aiguilles.
