Punta Ramière (Bric Froid)
Description
The route starts in Bousson on the valley floor below the well-known resort of Sestrière. A seemingly endless gravel road rides up the valley of the Thuras stream, becoming steeper and rougher at the end up to an altitude of 2550 meters above sea level. From here, the bike rests on your shoulders for almost 800 meters in altitude. The ascent rides along a trail to the Colle delle Ramière and finally to the summit of Punta Ramière (3302 meters above sea level). The ridge consists of lots and lots of gravelly rock, but is easy to do on foot.
The descent initially follows the ascent route and is surprisingly easy to ride. The path has good grip and is well developed, but experience in alpine mountain biking is essential. Finally, just above the Colle delle Ramière, keep right to descend via the Ripa Valley. From here, the trail is rougher and more challenging and stretches over 1100 vertical meters through the north side of the Ramière down to the valley floor. Finally, you roll down the entire valley on the gravel road and later on the asphalt road past Sauze di Cesana back to the starting point.
