Passo Clopacà - Süd
Description
The tour begins in Deveys. From here, the route follows paved roads, then gravel paths, winding steadily up the south side through switchbacks to the small hamlet of Grange della Valle. Nestled gently in the high plateaus of the Susa Valley, you’ll repeatedly be struck by the majesty of the Cottian Alps, through which this tour winds. From this point, the route climbs only a few meters before you have to push your mountain bike over the ridge from about 1,900 meters above sea level to the pass at 2,744 meters above sea level. Even during the climb, it becomes clear that this is a military road from World War II, built as part of the Vallo Alpino. For e-mountain bikes and light e-mountain bikes, it should be noted that skilled riders can still ride sections of the climb, but battery management is crucial given the tour’s length. At the highest point of the tour, a sweeping view opens up from the mountain pass in the heart of the Cottian Alps.
Then the descent begins. On Sentiero 813, the trail descends steadily toward Grange della Valle. The difficulty level is S2, resulting from the combination of terrain and trail conditions in the alpine landscape. From Grange della Valle, follow Trail 804a via Grange Soullier and then Trail 821. After that, additional trail sections lead back to the tour’s starting point. The descent, with an elevation loss of just under 1,700 meters, is very impressive and is considered one of the region’s absolute trail highlights.
