Rocciamelone

Rocciamelone

The tour up the Rocciamelone in the Val di Susa is something for bike mountaineers. At 3,538 meters above sea level, the steep rocky mountain is one of the highest mountains that can be tackled by mountain bike. In addition to its alpine character, it impresses with a 3000 Elevation loss descent on single trails.

Description

The tour starts in Susa, preferably with a shuttle to the Rifugio La Riposa at 2136 meters above sea level. You can drive up to here in a car. The mountain bike now rests on your shoulders for the rest of the ascent to the summit. The partly washed-out trail leads up to the Rifugio Ca d'Asti and onwards, increasingly rocky, towards the summit. Ideally, you should leave your bike at a small weather station at around 3140 meters above sea level. The remaining section to the summit is very alpine and secured at the end with holding ropes. This section is not rideable downhill, but the ascent on foot is definitely worthwhile: the chapel with the statue of the Madonna on the summit is considered the highest place of pilgrimage in the Alps and offers a unique view.

Those who start the descent at the meteorological station can enjoy an impressive high Alpine trail, which becomes increasingly rough after the Rifugio Ca d'Asti. Back in the valley, the second part of the descent follows: first over short gravel passages to Alp Tour, then on a varied singletrail past Monte Molara to Foresto. The lower section in particular is technically demanding and rough - but a real highlight for experienced mountain bikers. From Foresto, you finally enjoy a relaxed ride along the railroad line back to Susa.

Very epic tour! We rode from Susa. The last 300m were too exposed for us, so we left the bike behind

Impressive video, but riding technique with the often locking rear wheel should be optimized ;-)
