Passo Avanzà

Passo Avanza

The Passo Avanzà in the Susa Valley, near the town of Susa, is a high-alpine pass for all-mountain bikers in top physical condition. The trail descent that follows feels endless yet remains consistently enjoyable.

Description

The tour starts just north of Susa in Venaus. From here, the route first rides on a paved road toward the hamlet of Cresto and continues on to the main road. Then it turns left, first on pavement and later on gravel, for what feels like an endless climb up the southern slopes of Punta Mulatera. Toward Grange Marzo, you’ll find an easy-to-ride singletrack, before the trail becomes increasingly rugged and wild, eventually requiring you to push or carry your mountain bike for nearly 300 meters of elevation gain. At Passo Avanzà, at 2,538 meters above sea level, you’ve reached your destination, and a well-deserved break with panoramic views awaits.

The descent then begins on Sentiero 801 and continues on Sentiero 820. A dream singletrack winds along the endless slopes through alpine scenery—with some slightly exposed sections—and rides steadily downhill with difficulty ratings ranging from S1 to S2+. After climbing 1,940 meters, 1,940 meters of elevation loss follow. Near the main road, you’ll cross it once more before the final trail sections lead back to Venaus and thus to the starting point.
