Bocca Cocca
Description
The starting point of the tour is the small village of Vantone on the eastern shore of Lake Idro. The route first climbs steeply uphill on the sometimes rough Karnweg. You then come to the asphalted SP58 road, which you follow for a few meters. The route soon branches off to the left and rides steadily uphill through Capovalle on a dirt road. After the village, you reach an old military road that rides to the Rifugio Monte Stino. However, the tour remains on the cart track, which runs past Monte Stino to Bocca Cocca.
The pass lies at just under 1350 meters above sea level and was already of military importance during the First World War. The views over Lake Idro are impressive and particularly attractive in the seasons with little vegetation - not least because of the numerous remains of former military buildings.
From here, the descent begins. On an old mule track or military path, the route rides northwards towards Monte Calva, steadily downhill. The perfectly laid out trail offers riding fun at difficulty level S1 with individual sections at level S2. Further down, a winding trail follows, which is a little more technically demanding and is known as the Calva-Vesta Trail. This leads directly down to Lake Idro and impresses with its well thought-out lines and ideal gradient - an absolute top trail.
On arrival in Vesta, you finally ride back to the starting point in Vantone on asphalt.

This tour is exceptionally well-researched. The climb is peppered with steep and challenging side roads. While this is more exhausting than the main road, it was also more exciting for us. The “romantic” ride through the village—instead of taking the bypass—is also a little highlight. The descent is mostly fantastic. From Bocca Cocca onward, the scenery becomes extremely picturesque and the ride is a real pleasure. Further down, as described, the trail becomes more challenging, narrower, and features more tight turns. The surface is a mix of loose stones, sandy soil, and—in our case in October—already covered with the first fallen leaves. A very vibrant mix after the dry summer.
A beautiful climb on an e-bike, a spectacular traverse from Bocca Cocca, easy to ride. The descent to Vesta is consistently S2 to S3—rideable, but tricky.
