The route starts in the small village of Vantone a little north of Idro. From here, the route initially climbs very steeply on gravel to the pass road. The route then climbs steadily on asphalt up to the Passo San Rocco (960 meters above sea level). From the village of Capovalle, you then take the military road as the next section and wind your way along the eastern ridge via Il Dossone to the Rifugio Monte Stino. The Rifugio is a real architectural gem and is set in a dreamlike landscape. Even on the last few meters uphill, you can see Monte Baldo and the Altissimo towering above you from the eastern side. Especially in spring and fall, when the mountain peaks are covered in snow, this gives a special flair that is otherwise more familiar from New Zealand. From the Rifugio, it is only a few meters to Monte Stino. A war museum has been built up here and a number of relics from the past are on display and can be viewed. The panorama is magnificent.
The descent initially follows the ascent route, winds its way past the Rifugio Monte Stino and then follows an old pioneer trail down to Vantone - over a length of more than eight kilometers of singletrail. The level of difficulty is S1 to S2, only S3 in places at the end. Perfectly constructed, as if bikers had been involved in the planning back then. Absolutely idyllic and deserted even in the high season, you can surf it all the way to Vantone, where the lake is already waiting for you to cool off in summer.
