We set off from the center of Offenburg along cycle paths to the village of Rammersweier. This is where the Mountain Bike World Cup race site is located, but we don't care about that today. Instead, we climb up to the Brandeckkopf on a pleasant gravel road. 700 meters of altitude difference add up. At the summit, we recommend climbing the viewing tower, which offers a good view of the central Black Forest, the Rhine plain and the Vosges mountains beyond, including the city of Strassbourg. The descent starts with a flowing trail, which is interrupted a little later by a short section of gravel ascent to Fritscheneck. After that, there is virtually uninterrupted singletrail flow. You follow the mountain ridge westwards at a fluid and fast pace, the trail seems to flow endlessly through the forest. There is also a challenging section in between, which is easy to ride but requires a good deal of concentration. At Freudentaler Eck, keep left and head down to Ohlsbach, where you return to civilization. You now roll along cycle paths back to Offenburg city center. If you've still got your strength left, postpone the trail beer in Offenburg's pedestrian zone until later and climb from Ortenberg back up to the Hohes Horn before tackling the serpentine trail to Schuckshof.
