Katzenstein
Description
Gengenbach is one of the most beautiful places in southern Germany. But that doesn't interest us at first; instead, we start the ascent to Katzenstein straight away. A bit of a warm-up ride to the corner chapel, then it's a good singletrail up to the Satteleck junction. If you want to save some energy at the beginning, take the gravel road as an alternative. The route then climbs up to Pfaffenbacher Eck, where it turns into a Holzerweg, a mixture of trail and tractor track. This is how you reach the Katzenstein with its fantastic view of the central Black Forest. The descent is on the agenda! This starts with a flowing trail, followed by an intermediate section on a gravel road until a never-ending trail rides southwards. There are always short climbs and equally short sections on gravel roads. In this way, you flow through the forest until you reach the first houses in Zell am Harmersbach. The first part of the tour is done and you cycle over to Erzbach on cycle paths. If you've had enough, take the train or the cycle paths along the valley floor back to Gengenbach. However, it is more attractive to take the fantastic hillside footpath on the opposite side of the valley on the way back. To do this, you climb up a gravel road towards Rauhkasten, but then stop well below the summit on a trail over to Rebmessersteinbrünnele. Here you will find the Guttahütte hut run by the Black Forest Association, which is often open at weekends. This is also the start of the long descent back to Gengenbach. Trails ride along the mountain, then a longer stretch of gravel road until you can finally take the slope footpath. The typical flowing Black Forest trail rides smoothly all the way to Strohbach. From here, it's just a stone's throw back to Gengenbach. And by now at the latest, we should be interested in the historic town - the picturesque town center is perfect for celebrating the great tour with a beer and aperitif.
Note: The tour is located in Baden-Württemberg with the legal requirement of a two-meter rule. This tour contains elements that do not comply with this regulation. Rather, it reflects routes that are ridden by local mountain bikers. Compliance with the regulations is the responsibility of each individual mountain biker.
