Karlsruher Grat - Vereinsweg

Oberkirch (Schwarzwald)

The lovely wine and fruit-growing region north of Offenburg provides the basis for this inconspicuous but charming tour in the northern Black Forest.

Description

The village of Oberkirch, just above Offenburg, is the base of this tour. First you roll flat for a while to Lautenbach and then climb up to Sohlberg on an asphalt road with a pleasant gradient and finally to the small summit of the same name. This is the first section of trail. The section up to the Melkerei parking lot is a mixture of gravel roads and trails, ascents, descents and flat sections. Finally, you climb up a road to near the Melkereikopf, where you can enjoy beautiful views down to the Rhine Valley. The descent begins here on the left. Roll down a flowing path back to Allerheiligenstrasse and then ride north along the Karlsruher Grat until you reach the large quarry. There is also a single trail over the Karlsruher Grat itself, but it is not rideable. The village of Ottenhöfen is finally reached via a mixture of trails and gravel roads.

Ottenhöfen is a good place for a rest, as the return journey to Oberkirch is still on the agenda. To do this, you climb almost 400 meters in altitude on a small road to the Simmersbacher Kreuz. After a section of gravel road descent, the Vereinsweg branches off to the left - a super easy and flowing path without any major obstacles, but also with the odd hairpin bend. These hairpin bends are mainly in the final section, where the Vereinsweg turns into the Schwalbensteinweg. Conclusion: A beautiful, unspectacular but fun loop, which also gives less experienced mountain bikers a great single trail feeling, especially on the Vereinsweg.

Tip: To shorten the ascent, take the bus (line 425) to Ruhestein and then climb up a bit to the trail entrance at Melkereikopf. The bus carries a large bike trailer on weekends and holiday days on designated routes.

Note: The tour crosses the Black Forest National Park for a short distance, with a general ban on bikes off designated routes.

Note: The tour is located in Baden-Württemberg with the legal requirement of a two-meter rule. This tour contains elements that do not comply with this regulation. Rather, it reflects routes that are ridden by local mountain bikers. Compliance with the regulations is the responsibility of each individual mountain biker.
