Bric Merizzo

Bric Merizzo (Finale Ligure)

The Bric Merizzo with its ascent over the Melogno Pass offers fantastic uphill flair thanks to its historical significance and an eternal trail descent thanks to its strong infrastructure.

Description

The tour starts in the neighboring town of Finale Ligure, Pietra Ligure. From Pietra Ligure, the route initially winds its way uphill towards Torre di Bastia and on towards Melogno on asphalt. Once you reach the Osteria di Din at an altitude of around 900 meters, take the road to the left as far as Colle del Melogno. From here, the route continues over the legendary positions to Bric Merizzo (1275 meters above sea level), where there is a fantastic view towards the Mediterranean and an excellent view of the hinterland.

From the position, you descend a typical Ligurian-style trail at S2 level to the saddle. Then take the second fork and you'll find yourself on a natural trail, sometimes also a shaped trail with a difficulty of S2 to S3. Continue in this manner until you reach Isallo, where you alternate between the "Fast and Furious" trail and the "Isallo Extasi 2020". Both trail descents are an absolute highlight of this region and belong on every mountain bike to-do list. After Isallo, the route briefly follows the tarmac road before surfing along the Sentiero del Ferro on the same level of difficulty, before rolling towards the sound of the sea and the starting point from Morelli. It should be noted that after heavy rainfall or a wet vegetation period, the trails can increase in difficulty or become extremely difficult to ride due to the ground conditions (mud).

Rode this week, the climb is long - but the descent is really great, the few deviations from the GPX trail are easy to find. The mule tracks at the end are exhausting again, but scenic and much better than rolling down on the road.

Nice tour for the first day in Finale. Not too long and not too technical. A relaxed roll-in. Somewhere in the middle section, the trail leads into a private property, from where it doesn't go any further. Everything is overgrown. However, the bypass is easy to find. Sometimes a little slippery in wet conditions, but if you haven't just put on Cervelat skins, everything is very easy to ride.

We rode the tour today, April 1st (no kidding) Uphill top - very pleasant ascent to the Passo di Melogno. There you can refuel in the Ristorante Din or also about 1km further along the route in a grotto. The last part of the ascent involves pushing, but only for a relatively short time (approx. 10-15 minutes) Once you reach the top of Bric Merizzo, you can see impressive fortifications from the Second World War

The descent begins promisingly - on Trailforks it's called Isallo Extasy - the trail meanders nicely, flowing and relatively flat. After about 500m, the trail turns left - but this tour from Ride turns right into the Fast and Furious. However, this trail has probably not been used or maintained for some time. It is overgrown and many trees, branches etc. make the trail partially unrideable. It's a shame because the trail is beautifully laid out and, as the name suggests, would be very fast and furious to ride if it were maintained and free of obstacles. So make sure you stay on the Isallo Extasy, because further down the Fast and Furious joins it anyway and goes down into the valley via Revenant. The latter is absolute madness - an absolute trail firework! Once you reach the road at the bottom, it is advisable to stay on the road. The trails that follow the route are no longer very good and some of them are completely overgrown and no longer rideable.

If you ride the tour as described above, it is an absolutely recommendable trail highlight. Tanti salutti a tutti!
