Chasseur-Trail
Description
The Chasseur Trail starts at the spectacular Crêtes XXL - the legendary crête trail of the Terres Noires. The quickest way to reach it is via the hamlet of Le Villard and the subsequent ascent on an easy gravel road.
In this version, the Chasseur Trail is embedded in a circular tour with several exciting descents. First you follow the main road to Marcoux and then climb up on gravel to the inconspicuous crossing at the Bergerie de Maurel. This crossing is followed by a traverse through typical Terres-Noires terrain - rocky, open, impressive - until you reach a nameless crossing, from where a playful trail rides down to the village of Archail.
The next short trail section begins directly behind the hamlet and leads onto another gravel road. Follow this for around 300 meters uphill. The last few meters before the hill are on a single trail - fit and motorized mountain bikers ride it all the way, others push for a few minutes. The culmination of the tour is then reached.
After a few short trail sections, the actual Chasseur Trail begins: initially flowing and winding in S2 mode through the forest, but the famous ridge paths of the Terres Noires soon open up. Technically not overly difficult, but spectacularly exposed - the terrain drops steeply to the left and right. A little courage is required, but the scenery is simply breathtaking. No one will be left out in the cold if you push here.
Finally, you enter the forest again and follow the Chasseur Trail further downhill - now in an S3 mix: dirt, black clay passages, roots, small steps and tight hairpin bends alternate. A real enduro dream - varied and challenging, but never unfair.
The trail ends deep down in the Ravine de Banastiers valley. From here, you roll comfortably downhill on the road to Digne-les-Bains. Tip: In the upper part of the gorge, there are always fantastic spots for a refreshing dip in the mountain stream - ideal at the end of a challenging tour.
