Lac de Tseuzier

Lac de Tseuzier is known from the legendary Plaine Morte Tour. It is located at the upper end of the steep Liène gorge valley and is the starting point of the world-class descent down to Sion.

Description

The first part of the tour rides along the official and signposted mountain bike route 88 (Valais Panorama Bike). The route takes you up through the vineyards to Chandolin-près-Savièse on small roads and then up several hairpin bends to the scattered settlement of Mayens da la Dzour. A short descent allows you to recover before riding up to Anzère. At the village with its many chalets, the ascent is almost complete. There are still a few meters of ascent to Grillesse, then follow the signposted route to Sé des Samarins, where you leave the official route and ride along the Bisse de Sion towards Lac de Tseuzier. The last section leads along a small road to the Tseuzier dam. Now it's time for the phenomenal descent, which also takes you down to Sion on the Plaine Morte tour. This initially rides along the Bisse d'Ayant through a rock face, then as a flow trail past Samarin and finally on a forest road to Luc. A few meters after the village, a super-fun serpentine trail leads to a small dam at the bottom of the Liène gorge. This is the start of the legendary Bisse de Clauveau with its small rock tunnel. Along this bisse, you reach the outskirts of Sion and then head into the town center.

We rode the tour about 8 years ago and remembered it as very good. Now again on 2.8.24. In the gorge at the "small tunnel" at the Bisse de Claveau there was no way through with the (e)bike because it was too narrow for the handlebars (wsh. my last bike was narrower :)). . In addition, the lighting in the tunnel doesn't work (anymore) - so take a headlamp with you. We then turned around and went back up to Luc.

Did the tour on 21.8.24. The lights in the tunnel still don't work. With my wide handlebars it was also not possible to pass through the tunnel. I loosened the handlebars a little and turned them 90° so that I could cross the tunnel. Alternatively, you could also remove the front wheel and turn the handlebars completely...

Hi I did this trail today , do NOT attempt it until it’s cleared , firstly the roads tunnels to lac are still blocked with ice although u can get through with torch but in the gorge some of the exposed trail have collapsed and I had to cross scree and snow with extreme exposure, I should of turned round but deep snow put me off climbing hundreds of meters back up , please do not try it till cleared , very very scary and extreme dangerous experience .R

I rode the tour on September 20, 2019.

The first part of the tour rides exclusively on tar and mostly through vineyards. If I hadn't been able to duel with a group of Gümelers, I would probably have died of boredom. It wasn't until Pragier 1356 that I hit a trail for the first time. From there it got more interesting. Sometimes down a trail, then up another forest path, then along a bisse until I went through the tunnel and arrived at the reservoir. The first part led steeply down a gravel path and I wondered what that was all about. But then it got cool. Steep single trails alternated with flow trails, flow trails with rough root passages, leisurely bite trails with exposed sections, simply everything a biker's heart desires. However, most of the trails are good and easy to ride and are highly recommended. BUT...most of the trails at the Biss'en are very narrow and it is almost impossible to cross with pedestrians. I always jumped off the trail early and made room, so there were no problems. There weren't that many people on the trail either. However, I would definitely not recommend this tour during the peak hiking season.

Conclusion: The approach is tedious, the descent world class. Not recommended in the hiking season.
I ride a Scott Spark 900RC and am usually in the head group uphill; downhill always last, by a long way.
