Description

The tour starts in Épagny, not far from Annecy airport. First of all, you roll relaxed over a transfer section to La Balme, from where you climb up the ridge from the north. The uphill is all on easy single trails - a pleasant alternative to classic forest roads. At a prominent junction, you have the option of climbing to the summit of the Tête. However, this detour is not worth it: the view of Annecy is denied and the trails are of below-average quality. It's better to keep left and head north along a series of varied S1 trails through the forest ridge. Sometimes narrow, sometimes wider, but almost always trail-based instead of wide gravel paths.

Finally, you reach the area above Mandallaz, where the first trail descent begins. But instead of riding all the way down into the valley, you keep to the upper edge of the forest and climb slightly again - still on single trails, of course. Shortly afterwards, you enter a long, gently sloping flow trail (S1) with an excellent rhythm. The trail ends at a point that may already be familiar from the ascent.

Now you leave the Mandallaz forest and start the return route through the Machurettes forest. After a short connecting section, the next trail descent begins: flowy, playful and in the S2 range, on paths created by mountain bikers. This ends at the edge of the forest. The downhill fun is over, but the finale is still to come. Finally, there is one last trail transfer at S1 level towards the airfield. The actual conclusion of the loop is a relaxed ride on cycle paths back to Épagny.

Note: In summer 2025, the Machurettes forest was temporarily closed due to diseased trees. In this case, you can take the alternative route to the right, with a direct trail descent to Épagny. This is solid, but the original is clearly more attractive in terms of scenery and trails.
