Mattmark
Description
From Saas-Almagell, ride along the road up the main valley to the dam wall of Lake Mattmark. In the midst of rugged, high alpine nature and in the shadow of mighty glaciers, you follow the lakeshore to Distelalp and return to the dam wall on the other side of the lake. Less experienced mountain bikers now follow the ascent route back to Sass Almagell, while good riders follow the hiking trail down to the road and then ride back to Saas-Almagell via Eienalp.

The most difficult part of the descent can be easily avoided by following the gravel path to the sharp left at an altitude of 2170m. This is not marked on the ride map, but is shown on Swisstopo and SwitzerlandMobility. Then either on the road or more attractively via the valley floor gravel path to point 2041 and then continue according to the tour description.

Good riders follow the trail down to the road and then ride back over the Eienalp". Of course, you can have different views on what good riders are, but in my opinion, large parts of this section are only rideable for trial experts, in stark contrast to the rest of the tour. I would recommend the tour as a family tour, but then start right at the dam (accessible by (post) car)
