Mirnockriesen Trail

Mirnockriesen-Trail

This loop trail, featuring nearly 1,000 meters of elevation gain and loss around Lake Afritz toward the Melzerhütte, offers a scenic uphill section and a downhill stretch that is challenging in parts, all on official mountain bike trails.

Description

The tour starts at the southern end of Lake Afritz, just above the village of Afritz am See. From there, the route leads briefly along a paved road and then on a gravel path through wooded terrain, climbing steadily uphill. Along the way, there are some excellent views of the surrounding Nockberge Mountains. After climbing just under 900 meters in elevation, you reach the Melzerhütte. This is the highest point of the ride, at just under 1,600 meters above sea level. This is also where the descent along the Mirnockriesen Trail begins. With difficulty levels S2 and S2+, the trail winds rapidly downhill through spruce forests on forest floor, interspersed with some rocks, in classic mountain biking style. You then reach the Millstätter Bundesstrasse and ride leisurely through the hamlet of Wiesen on the western shore of the lake back to the starting point.

Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
