Mirnock – Westabfahrt
Description
This tour starts on the eastern shore of Lake Millstatt in Döbriach. From there, follow the official bike route along the shore and later ride on paved roads through the hamlet of Glanz toward Mooswald. From Mooswald, you’ll pedal uphill for a short stretch on asphalt at first, then on gravel toward the Gingerhütte. The view at just over 1,700 meters above sea level is already very inviting here, before the route continues and you finally cross the ridge toward the Mirnock. At the summit, you can enjoy a sweeping view all the way to the Hohe Tauern and down to Lake Millstatt. Especially in the fall, with clear visibility and the changing colors of the vegetation, this is a special highlight. The same applies to the bench, which, although very touristy, is perfectly placed in combination with the imposing summit cross.
Then the descent begins, winding westward down toward Lake Millstatt. Rated S2 in difficulty, the route runs above the tree line on gravel and dirt, dotted with some granite boulders. Later, you follow the so-called 888er Trail in classic style along forest and meadow paths at difficulty levels S2 and S3 toward the Mirnockbauer Posseggerhof. From there, you rejoin the official bike route and, as a grand finale, take the Sternen-Trail. With a difficulty rating of S2 to S2+ in dry conditions, this trail leads back to the starting point with a smooth and technical ride.
Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
