Monte Ramo
Description
The tour starts in the Serra Malagueta, right at the top of the pass between Tarrafal and Assomado. You can get up here in one of the many pick-up shuttles. After a few meters on a side road, the surface changes to gravel and the ascent towards Monte Ramo is a pleasant climb. The path leads through steep terrain with the best views down into the wild gorge. The ascent eventually turns into a single trail, which fit mountain bikers can master by riding in all but a few places. This takes you to the plateau of Monte Ramo, which you could now follow on a gravel road and thus head straight into the descent down into the Chao Grande. However, the trail detour to Fundura on the south side is worthwhile. This is steep and rough at first, but then becomes smoother and more fun. From Fundura, you then climb up a road to Figueira das Naus, where you rejoin the route from the Monte Ramo plateau.
The descent to the west coast begins! Initially, this is not very spectacular on a paved country road. Where this ends, a singletrail begins, initially not very obvious, but then quickly becomes beautiful and easy to ride and always follows the ridge high above the gorge. An impressive trail, partly a little overgrown because it is not well maintained. It descends in this way until the path suddenly leads in steep serpentines directly to the valley floor. The bike (unfortunately) has to be pushed for most of this 150-metre climb. Finally, you roll along the riverbed on a rough gravel road to the village of Ribeira da Prata. Here you will also find the famous black beach, which is undoubtedly worth a detour. Finally, you roll along the paved coastal road up and down back to Tarrafal.

Yes, unfortunately this is the case (attacks). Have also heard about it (mid-March 2025). Always with a guide.
We did the tour by e-bike. Beautiful scenery. Beautiful, black beach and some cool trails.
NEVER go without a guide, there were two of us walking in the section of the rumpy riverbed and we were robbed today!
