The Passo della Gardetta is a pass in the Valle Maira, which connects the Vallone del Preit and the Rifugio di Viviere and offers a great singletrail descent and a breathtaking panorama.

Description

The tour starts in the village of Ponte Marmora in Valle Maira. From here, the asphalt road leads steadily uphill towards Preit. Towards the end, up to Colle del Preit (2080 meters above sea level), it gets steeper and steeper and the mountains get more and more rugged, but the adventure gets bigger and bigger. The route then climbs on the Strada sterreta per Colle Preit via the Rifugio Gardetta (2335 meters above sea level) on historic paths to the Passo della Gardetta (2437 meters above sea level). Almost the entire ascent is a historic military trail from the 1930s, which is now marked for downhill mountain bikers.

The downhill follows towards Rifugio di Viviere on a difficulty of S2 past lost places and military installations from the last century. Enclosed to the left and right by the rough rock faces, you are immersed in an unreal world. This winds its way towards Viviere, where you finally change to a cart track as far as Chialvetta. From Chialvetta, the path becomes a little rougher and the last few meters are still trail-heavy back into the Valle Maira before you meander along the Torrente Maira back to the starting point.

Conclusion: A good introductory tour in Valle Maira, as you get to experience the vastness of the valley and the Western Alps and have the opportunity to get to know uphill and downhill trails.
