Monte Tibert

Monte Tibert (Valle Maira)

The tour past Monte Tibert is one of the really big tours in the Vall Maira with a 17-kilometre descent from Colle Sibolet into the main valley.

Description

A large part of the ascent involves the road from Ponte Marmora up to Colle d'Esischie. Here, 1400 meters of elevation gain accumulate, which ideally could also be covered by shuttle. After the pass, you switch to a single trail that rides through a fascinating landscape past Monte Pelvo and Monte Tibert up to Colle Sibolet (an additional 160 vertical meters).

Colle Sibolet is the starting point for the seemingly endless descents back to the main valley. 17 kilometers lie ahead of us. The descent begins with a fun S2 trail, then switches to somewhat wider sections, and later there are also S3 sections. The descent follows the ridge of the Rocca Cernauda in this way. This trail and road mix continues until you finally reach the valley floor at Villetta - over 1700 Elevation loss! The only thing missing is the final section back to Ponte Marmora, which is covered on the main road through the Valle Maira.

Very beautiful, epically long tour with a good mix of trails. After Basse di Narbona there is a long crossing on the forest road, and then it's a wild enduro ride on a very washed-out path to Grange Fumei. This is the most technically demanding part. After another forest road, the Sentiero Naslu branches off sharply to the left at an altitude of 1580 meters. This deviates from the original route, but is very rewarding. First a short ascent in the opposite direction, then a nice S1-S2 as far as Ciotto. Via Celle di Macra you come back to the original route and the equally rewarding last trail on soft forest soil. There is already some foliage on the trail, but everything is easy to ride. Trailcare - tutto bene!

Unfortunately, the mountains were in clouds today, so we couldn't enjoy the view.
On asphalt up to 2400m, then some ups and downs, partly riding, but also pushing.
The descent starts with trails over cow pastures, some of which are a bit washed out and bumpy. Occasionally a bit narrow with the risk of getting stuck with the pedals. This is followed by beautiful easy trails along the ridge and S2 trails with nice bends. Quite a bit of vegetation, but the trail is visible at all times. In the middle section there are long sections on dirt tracks :-(
Several variants at the bottom, all with lots of foliage and fallen trees/trunks.
Too bad - the locals don't really have the trailcare under control here... I didn't notice this on my last visits to the upper Valle Maira...
