San Amate

The San Amate chapel lies high above Lake Como near Rezzonico and is the starting point of the long singletrail descent through the eastern flanks of Monte Grona.

Description

From the shores of Lake Como at San Siro (Santa Maria), climb up to Marena on a small road and follow it until it turns into a gravel track at a parking lot at an altitude of 1150 meters above sea level above Monti di Gallo. This track rides up to Alp Rescascia and finally to the San Amate chapel. It is very steep and rough in places - which could force one or two mountain bikers to push. Finally, the chapel on the ridge is reached and with it the downhill trail back to Lake Como. It winds its way down to Breglia with many hairpin bends. Now you switch to mule tracks. The first leads over to Carcente, from where you take the next mule track to Pezzo. It is now just a few meters to the starting point of San Siro.

Tip: The tour is particularly beautiful with good visibility - the glaciated Valais peaks such as Monte Rosa, Alphubel, Dom, Nadelhorn or Weissmies then seem close enough to touch.
