Monte di Tremezzo
Description
Ideally, you should start the tour to Monte di Tremezzo in the village of Tremezzo on Lake Como and then take the main road to Argegno. Here you take the cable car up to Pigra, although the ascent can also be tackled under your own steam on a small road. Now climb up to Alpe di Colonno on an asphalt road and on to Alpe di Lenno. Here the surface changes to gravel and you reach the Rifugio Venini. It is worth making a detour to the summit of Monte Calbiga with its magnificent view of Lake Como and Lake Lugano. A high-level trail then leads to Bolla di Mezzegra, where the long descent down to the lakeshore begins. This initially rides through the steep eastern flank of Monte di Tremezzo and then in countless bends, but wonderfully smoothly, to Brente. A short stretch of gravel road then leads to Nava and the Bocchetta di Nava. This is the start of a technical single trail down to Tremezzo, which is fantastic for experienced mountain bikers. If this is too difficult for you, you can ride down from Nava to Tremezzo on the old alpine path.

I rode the tour today, unfortunately Pigra Bahn is only open Thu-Sun. The direct route to Pigra is ultra steep, after that it's fine. Trails quite okay, but quite washed out in places. Top tour in terms of views, but the trails didn't convince me. Although I actually love hairpin bends...
Rode today, but there was still quite a lot of snow at the top (approx. 2-3 km), so we had to push. So better to wait another 2 weeks.
The trails of the 2nd part are quite crisp with some exposed sections. The classification is absolutely correct here.
If you don't take the train up, you can ride up a steep cart track off the road for several kilometers. Just about rideable with an e-bike, but probably better on the road with a biobike.
Panoramic tour with great views, ridden on 22.09.2024, which we liked very much. Impressive views of Lake Lugano and Lake Como again and again. Once you have completed the somewhat dull but practical ascent on the tarred road, beautiful, varied natural trails await you.
The cable car from Argegno to Pigra was in normal operation - the message in the blog before that it was not riding (in April) seems to refer to the annual overhaul. The tip with the (free and unlimited) parking lot on the outskirts of Tremezzina, Via Febo Sala (Google Maps: X6J6+GX) was ideal, as parking spaces are few and far between on the narrow shore strip and are largely subject to charges and time restrictions. An alternative parking lot is via Ricci (X6MC+Q7), further up in the village of Tremezzina. There are no parking spaces at the valley station of the mountain railroad in Argegno itself (but at the mountain station and even free of charge there). If you start in Tremezzina, you have the somewhat annoying ride on the busy and narrow riverside road right to the start, but a relaxed end after lots of nature under your tires.
We rode the tour in April 2024.
Update Argegno - Pigra cable car > is unfortunately closed
Despite the additional ascent, we managed the tour in one day.
It's worth reserving a place to eat at the Rifugio Venini Galbiga.
If you like, you can also ride up to Pia Galbiga. Wonderful panoramic view.
Rode on 5.8.23. Super nice tour that I have ridden several times. I didn't know the trail from the Bocchetta de Nava. Challenging but worthwhile.
Absolutely brilliant tour with lots of flow and breathtaking views. Only a little tricky in the last part from Bocchetta di Nava (S3).
The lift to Pigra is currently (2.5.2023) being overhauled. We were therefore allowed to tackle the 600 extra meters in altitude by muscle power. The direct route is wide but very steep, most bikers will probably have to push most of the way, except on an e-bike. Alternatively, perhaps take the road around. As a reward, we had a delicious and invigorating plate of spaghetti at Le Lanterne di Pigra in Pigra.
In Tremezzina, we found a free parking space for the car on Via Febo Sala.
Ridden on 1.2.2023. This tour is always brilliant.
Part of the ascent and the traverse to the trail were snow-covered. Was mostly rideable with short sliding passages.
Trail dry and snow-free from the 1st bend.
I rode the tour last year on 10.09.2021. The ascent with the old train to Pigra alone is worthwhile.
Pleasant ascent and a great view. Easy trail where you can let it run properly. Here and there a switchback to shift the rear wheel. Absolutely worthwhile tour.
As described, the tour with the cable car and the detour to Monte Calbiga is one of the "best offs".
We also recommend the Rifugio Venin for refreshments after the descent. A plate of salumi with formaggio or cervo with brown polenta are the classics. And don't forget Gina's seventh-baked cakes!
Culinary delights are rarely mentioned in the route descriptions. We stop off at the mountain huts on every tour. The locals enjoy us bikers and maybe one day a trail will be renovated (-;
Very rewarding tour. Probably one of the best on Lake Como.
Impressive path from the World War II era, which has since deteriorated into a single trail. Very beautiful views. The trail is somewhat exposed in places, but easy to ride apart from the narrow serpentines. (S1-2)
So far my favorite tour on Lake Como!
Perfect!
The tour has everything I want from a successful bike day!
Pleasant ascent, great views, flowing fast trails, technical blocked trails! Few people (end of October)
What more could a biker want! Great!
Rode the tour today. Unfortunately, the view wasn't so good as it was very hazy and even foggy at the top. But it's definitely a great tour and the trails are great. You should definitely have a head for heights for the second part of the descent, as the trail is a bit exposed in places. There are also many switchbacks where it helps if you can move the rear wheel. But it is definitely a highly recommended tour.
