Mendrisiotto | Ride MTB

Mendrisiotto

Chiasso has little to offer mountain bikers - think again! In the southernmost tip of Switzerland, the national border is more winding than almost anywhere else, and there are tons of fun single trails hidden along the border. This becomes clear on the circular tour through the Mendrisiotto near Stabio.

Description

At Chiasso train station, take the side away from the town, follow the tracks along the edge of the forest and after just a few meters you will reach the first trail. This leads to Bresciano, then you ride through the vineyards to Novazzano and along local roads to Brusata. Winding single trails now ride along the state border to the large customs area of Gaggiolo. Follow the border uninterrupted, but now north of Stabio to the customs building between San Pietro and Clivio. The route continues on winding paths through the vineyards to Rancate, where the return journey to Chiasso begins. This no longer rides along national borders, but instead you always follow the trail along small streams. First it is the Laveggio stream, then it goes through the Valle della Motta past Castel di Sotto back to Chiasso.

We wanted to ride this tour today. There are no more trails along the state border. The whole thing resembles a jungle. You can only make progress with a machete. What's more, the amount of singletrack is pretty limited. Lg & ride on. Gabi
