Monte Generoso Nordseite

Mountain bikers know Monte Generoso from the classic route down into the Valle di Muggio. If you prefer something steeper and a little wilder, take the path through the north side of Generoso with direct access to Lake Lugano.

Description

The tour starts with the cog railroad up to the summit of Monte Generoso with the impressive Botta building. The first part of the descent follows the classic route along the eastern side of Monte Generoso with a flowing and varied trail to Orimento. After a short asphalt interlude, you enter the next trail at Barco dei Montoni. This trail hugs the north side of Monte Generoso and includes short but tiring climbs, sometimes interspersed with roots. With an e-mountainbike, this section can be ridden well and quite smoothly, but without motor support it becomes a small feat of strength. Finally, you reach the Passo del Crosèt, where an impressive view of Lake Lugano opens up.

Now the descent becomes much steeper. The trail follows the ridge down to the first houses of Arogno. The S3 difficulty trail is easy to ride, but not for everyone due to its steepness. It is not recommended in wet conditions as it is too slippery. In Arogno, follow a small road uphill to a farm. From here, you have to push for around 80 meters in altitude, even with an e-mountainbike, as the section is too steep and too rough. At the top, you reach the small pass above the Alpe di Bogo and roll down to Rovio via a fast, wide trail. You cross the beautiful historic village and shortly afterwards turn onto the next trail. This rides past a large, wild waterfall that you would hardly expect to see here. This section forms the final part of the tour before you reach Melano on a gravel road and then cycle back to Capolago along the main road along the lakeshore.
