St. Anton
Description
From Altstätten, you climb up the mountain road over the Chornberg to Haggen. A little further up, you reach St. Anton and have now covered all the ascent altitude meters. The descent now begins with a singletrail past the Naturfreundehaus. You finally reach a small road, which you follow up to Fegg and reach the nameless summit just above the group of houses on a singletrail. Continue along the ridge in the direction of Knollhausen, where you later climb a few more meters on a gravel road. After the Oberrüti forest clearing, the next singletrail begins, followed later by another traverse on a small road to Ahorn, where the first-class final section to Gonzerenbach and along the Martinstobel to Marbach begins. From here, you return to Altstätten train station via Ober Lüchingen on local roads.

A really beautiful ride—highly recommended. Once you reach the top, I’d even give the panoramic view across the entire Rhine Valley all the way to Lake Constance one more point. Tip: Stop for a bite to eat at the Alpenhof St. Anton. As a casual cyclist, though, it took me over 3 hours, and I had to get off my bike here and there—especially on the stairs.
I rode the route on my e-bike today, June 14, 2026. I’m thrilled! It’s a great mix of flow and technical sections. I didn’t run into any pedestrians.
Unexpectedly good. Tip-top.
Top trail round, with the e-bike a fast and comfortable ascent and then great trails down again. Rode it for the 2nd time and loved it again.
The classification fits well.
I would love more of these great trails.
Beautiful tour, great views, entertaining trails.
Ridden with Simplon Cirex 100
Very rooty. Only rideable if it is dry for several days. Technically rather demanding. Nice tour. Doable in 2 hours
Hi Ralph, I disagree with you. We ride all the trails in the wet and in the snow ;)
Happy trails
Cool "spontaneous tour" with a tough climb. Doable in just under 2 hours for an average biker and - a real fun maker! I've ridden the tour twice so far and will do it again. The tour can be easily tackled from the free public parking lot on the left-hand side of Altstätten in the direction of Stoss.
Have fun!
I rode the tour today (Sept. 23). The single trails are really great and everything is rideable with the right technique (I never got off my bike). It's also good that you don't disturb any hikers on these trails - I only met 4 in good weather.
Another thing about the condition of the trails: they are actually in good condition, BUT there are obviously some bikers who mistake their rear wheel for a grindstone. Before every bend, there are massive traces of blocked rear wheels and a lot of erosion of the trails. When I look at this, I'm not surprised that we bikers have such a bad reputation in parts of the population. Don't ruin these trails by locking up your rear wheel!
RIDE, don't SLIDE.
Wild and romantic along the stream. Partly very flowy, partly hardly rideable/unrideable. No pedestrians. Take care on the ascent in Altstätten and choose the easy option (signposted), unless you fancy a 25% climb
