Hirschberg

The Hirschberg is one of the local mountains of Appenzell and connects it with the St. Gallen Rhine Valley. For mountain bikers, it offers the best views of the Säntis and fun trails in the direction of Altstätten.

Description

From Appenzell via Unterlehn and Oberlehn to the meeting point and on via Hütten to Hirschberg. A singletrail takes you over the top of the mountain, but then you stay on a forest path to Brandegg. Shortly after Brandegg, a technically challenging single trail begins to Erlengschwend and on towards Hölzlisberg. Shortly before these houses, keep left along the edge of the forest on a short high-altitude trail to Schwarzenweid, where the next singletrail branches off to the right shortly before entering the forest and takes you to Eichberg. Here you climb up again in the direction of Süess-Winkel and up through the Chräzerenwald forest to Eggerstanden, from where you reach Steinegg via a small asphalt road. Return to Appenzell on the main road.

I rode the tour from Eichberg. This meant that the very high asphalt section of the tour was completed before the final descent on trails.

The trails are quite good, further down there is a small part that is no longer there and could be easily bypassed if you recognize it in time.

Too much asphalt for my taste, I would take the direct route from Eichberg to Hoher Hirschberg.

Beautiful spring tour, can be well shuttled with the AB.

Beautiful, panoramic tour with a moderate gradient on the ascent and varied and fun trails on the descent. Start with a more challenging root trail. Towards the bottom there is a little more flow.
