Fählensee | Ride MTB

Fählensee

Lake Fählensee is one of the most visited places in the Alpstein - and rightly so. It is nestled in the rugged world of the Alpstein. For mountain bikers, the route to the lake is worthwhile away from the vacation season and at weekends and ideally at off-peak times.

Description

From Weissbad (just south of Appenzell), ride along the mountain road to Brülisau and from there through the Brüeltobel to Plattenbödeli near Lake Säntis. Cross the plateau and the Rhodwald forest on a forest road to reach the Fälensee, nestling in the high mountain flanks of the Alpstein. The return journey to Plattenbödeli is similar to the ascent. Instead of going through the Brüeltobel ravine, turn right to Alp Soll and follow a singletrail up to the Ruhsitz below the Hoher Kasten. From here, the singletrail leads back to Brülisau and along the Brüelbach back to Weissbad.

Beware: there are also many hikers in this region.

This route is located in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden. Bike bans can be found here time and again, including on this route. The authorities explicitly do not want mountain bikers on trails and mountain bikers are advised to avoid other regions. Being aware of this fact and the legal situation, it is the responsibility of each individual to ride a mountain bike on this route.
